Instructions For This Course:
1. To learn the most from this course, read through all Three Lessons and complete all the activities and review questions. The Activities are required for this course; the Links are yours to explore as you wish. The Review Questions at the end of each lessons will help you learn the material better and will help you on the final questionnaire.
2. This course should take between 1.5 to 3 hours to complete. If you need to take a break between sessions, bookmark the page you finish on so that you can return to the correct page when you resume your session. Links to each Lesson are also located in the side menu on each page.
3. Look for these graphics:
Some people find it easier to print out each lesson and read it on paper. On the first page of each lesson, there is a button in the left hand corner that says "Printable Format." This will open up a file of the written part of the lesson that is formatted to print easily. Remember to do this for each Lesson. However, some activities in the course will still need to be access on-line and the final questionnaire also needs to be taken online. You may also print out the final questionnaire, complete it and mail it the Alaska Center for Resource Families for scoring.
Complete this activity as part of the course. Activities involve either doing a writing activity on your own, reading a short article, or viewing a short video or slide show. Some of these activities will "pop up" in another window. Just close the window to return to your original page. You will need either Windows Media Player or Real Player to view the media selected for one of the Activity. You will also need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open up several of the articles. You will also need to turn off your "Pop Up Blocker" command on your computer in order to access some of the activitiies.
OPTIONAL ACTIVITY: This graphic means that an interesting link with information related to this topic that you might want to visit for more information. It is not required to complete the course or pass the final questionnaire but will further your knowledge of this topic. These links will "pop up" in another window. Just close the window to return to your original page.
This means that the activity is a chance to review what you learned in this lesson by answering some review questions. These review questions help you remember the information and be more successful on the final questionnaire.
4. For Alaskan resource families only: if you wish to earn training credit hours for completing this course, complete the "Check Your Understanding" Questionnaire at the end of Lesson 3 and Click Submit. If you score at least 80% correct on the questionnaire, you will earn 3.0 hours of training credit. This will be entered into your training record at the Alaska Center for Resource Families and you will receuve an e-mail confirmation of your completion of the course. Each parent can complete the course for credit, but individuals can receive credit toward training requirements just once for completing this course.
5. Everyone is welcomed to read through this material, and complete the course, but due to contract restrictions, only Alaskan resource families will receive confirmation of training hour credit for successfuly completing the course and completing the questionnaire.
