Adoptive parent training

Training for the adoptive parent journey

We provide training to support you throughout your adoption journey—from deciding to adopt to post-adoption supports and services.

First year training

Prepare yourself and your family by learning everything you can. People interested in adoption are encouraged to complete a series of five central training courses:

  1. Orientation
  2. Core Training for Resource Families
  3. Adopting through the Office of Children’s Services (OCS)
  4. Building families through adoption
  5. Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI)

The first-year adoption training path prepares you for what to expect from the adoption journey. You will learn about the laws and regulations around adoption in Alaska. This pathway also helps to gain an understanding of the needs of children and youth and the day-to-day responsibilities of parenting a young person who has experienced trauma.

Ongoing training to meet your needs
