We offer resources on the importance of culture in adoption. Providing training to support Alaska Native youth, Tribes, and parents caring for Alaska Native children. Resources can help Native and non-Native families maintain Tribal connections for young people.
Keeping cultural connections for children in care
The cultural connections course focuses on helping children in care maintain cultural identity. Topics include Indigenous cultural frameworks, talking to kids about race and identity, Alaska Native history, and perspectives from families and professionals. Additional resources include short films, classroom tools, and discussion guides. Training credit is available through self-paced video viewing.

The cultural approaches to permanency video series teaches culturally responsive child welfare practices, especially for Alaska Native communities. Viewers learn about maintaining cultural identity in permanency planning, working with Tribal partners, cultural and Tribal adoption, guardianship, and recruiting culturally committed foster families. The videos are self-paced and offer training credit for your ITP.
